What you can expect during this course<\/h3>\n

This course is designed as a complement to our first level course in CNC milling machines. It allows the user not only to be able to refine his drawing skills in two dimension and three dimensions, but to be able to calibrate the machine at its machine 0 and to launch the milling machine code. Although the first course is not mandatory it is important to have some basics in CNC milling. The program that we’ll be using is Mach 3 software for piloting, but the parameters are the same for any step directional software on the market. Which means that you can operate a conventional CNC milling machine with the skills that you learned during this course.<\/p>\n

The goal of this course is to refine your skills for you to pass it the third level of our CNC master class which is to cut objects and models in three dimensions. After this course you should be able to choose the material, choose your speeds and feeds, be able to program the CNC machine, calibrate the zero of the machines, choose your tool and start to cut your design. Another goal of this course is so that you’re autonomous on the machine so that you can use our membership in our workshop efficiently. This course is the same course that we give to people who buy our machines and need a quick easy way to enter the world of C&C without all the hassle of taking a course.<\/p>\n

About the equipment used in this course<\/h3>\n

These advanced CNC techniques can be used on many different machines and many different software that use what’s called a step directional controller. Nowadays many CNC milling machines use step directional controllers because they’re easy to use and can be adapted to the personal computer very easily. A configuration file is used to calibrate the sizes of the machine and the speeds and feeds of your project. Once the computer is calibrated with the machine it should be able to pilot the machine and follow the instructions that you have written with a post processor such as AutoCAD or Badog CAM.<\/p>\n

The machine that we’ll be using is a Badog X3 which is the same machine that we use to cut all our other machines in our workshop in Fribourg. These machines are small and surprisingly precise for their cost and can be easily placed in a small workshop or along the side of a small assembly line. We’ll be using standard software for this course that can be easily available on the Internet or by mail order.<\/p>\n

This course is a great introduction into the third module which will be 3D modeling and more complex ideas like milling speeds and feeds as well as tool choices.<\/p>\n
