1.1.1       What you can expect during this course

This introductory course targets the absolute beginner by starting off with simple examples and using a practical approach to learning. Each participant goes home with their laser cut project. This course is designed not only to have fun but to allow the absolute beginner to use technology and learn from real equipment.  You will learn how to adapt the laser and to program it to cut clocks, bracelets, flowers, chess games and even jewelry out of many different materials.

This is a great introductory course into the world of laser cutters because it gives you enough information to see how a real 2D Laser cutter/engraver works. And you even get to try out the technology for yourself in our shop. This is great for kids as well as young adults or just people that are curious about the 2d Laser cutting engraving world.

1.1.2       About the 3d Printer technology used in this course

Laser CNC cutting machines are used to burn permanent marks to engrave or to cut through materials like wood, paper, plastic, and any other light material. Manufacturers use laser engraving to create bar codes and simple prototypes in two dimensions. They’re easy to use and other than a complex ventilation system, don’t need any external equipment or in the mills like with conventional CNC milling.

These machines are easy to use and usually a great addition to a small workshop to do prototyping and engraving work. Laser engravers have been industrialized in the last few years so costs have come down quite a bit since they’ve been invented. A simple 30-Watt laser can cut through about four millimeters of wood and is a great tool to have next to your 3D printer.

 

2D CAD software is easy to use and easily adapted to many different projects and many different designs. The laser engravers are usually compatible with normal software that you probably use already and don’t even know.

We use these machines in our shop to make arrangement boxes for tools and engrave many objects, so we don’t lose them or confuse them with our clients’ tools.

1.1.1       Our advice

They would be advised that you bring a notebook or at least some paper so that you can writer instructions down and use them later. It would also be a good idea to wear work clothes as we will be working in a dusty environment with real functioning CNC 2D Laser machines. We have the necessary safety glasses and gloves to protect you while the work is being done.
