What you can expect during this course

This introductory course on vinyl cutting allows the student to learn about the applications pertaining to the vinyl cutting machine. You will learn how to vectorize drawings using free software available on the Internet and transform them into a sticker. You will also learn the applications of vinyl cutting machines such as making advertising banners, storefront signs, labels, sandblasting masks and even T-shirts and hats.

 

Each student will get the chance to either choose or Draw Something that they want to vectorize. And with the help of one of our staff transform that into computer information that we could send to the machine. After this step it’s up to the student to prepare the sticker or the transfer vinyl for a T-shirt for final use

About the vinyl cutter used in this course

Vinyl cutter machine is a computer-controlled machine that’s usually used to cut vinyl to be used for signs. Vectorized files that have been treated by a computer are sent to the machine to be cut. The machine usually uses sheets of vinyl in rolls with an adhesive background so that the vinyl can be used as a sticker or eventually on a textile T-shirt. The machine itself is usually USB controlled and it’s widely used in advertising companies to make banners and signs for publicity. If you’ve ever seen a car with vinyl stickers, it’s sure that it’s been made by a vinyl cutter machine.

 

These machines can also be adapted to be used with special paper that can glow in the dark or be used under extreme conditions like heat. The machines can also be adapted to cut through magnetic sheets to make decals for cars or other metal supports. We use these machines in our workshop to make signs for emergency stickers and other indications that show where tools are supposed to be put.

It’s not only the signed business that uses these vinyl cutters, but small businesses have also been able to adapt short series runs of stickers that can save a lot of money in prototyping in the long run. This also allows for a prototype that is quickly conceived without long waits of outsourcing or waiting for delivery from other countries. These vinyl sheets can be bought in bulk which can also bring down the cost of production of many stickers and many projects for small advertising shops.

Our advice

There’s nothing special to remember about this before you come. It might be a good idea to bring some paper and something to write with, so you won’t forget the course. Final cutting is usually clean, but it might be dangerous because we use sharp knives to isolate the vinyl designs after it’s been cut on the vinyl cutting machine.
